  • YOUTH MINISTRIES - GRADES 6-12

St. Paul’s has a large and varied program of youth ministries overseen by a Council on Youth Ministries and directed our full-time Minister of Christian Education and Youth. Youths age 11 to 18 are invited to participate.

Sunday School: 10:30 am during the worship service.

Middle High United Methodist Youth Fellowship: Youth in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades meet regularly for fun and fellowship, learning, worship, and service opportunities. Elected officers lead the group in planning their own program calendar, assisted by the youth minister and volunteer counselors. The group meets on Sunday evenings from 7-8:30 p.m., except when an afternoon activity or retreat is planned. Two weekend retreats are provided each year, along with many additional recreational activities.

Senior High United Methodist Youth Fellowship: Teens, in the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades meet regularly for fun and fellowship, learning, worship, and service opportunities. Elected officers plan the program calendar, and members take turns leading evening discussions. The group meets on Sunday evenings from 7-8:30 pm, except when an activity or retreat is planned. Two weekend retreats, many additional recreational activities, and occasional special programs (e.g.,work camps, trips to national youth convocations) supplement the regular schedule.

"Just for YOUth": A monthly newsletter mailed to all youth and their parents associated with St. Paul's.

Acolyte and Crucifer Program: Youth 6th grade and above serve as acolytes – worship leaders who light and extinguish candles and receive offering plates during Sunday morning worship services. Youth 8th grade and above carry the processional cross at worship.

Basketball: Youth in 6th through 12th grade play basketball with youth from other churches, without the formality or pressures of organized sports.

Boy Scout Troop #439: This large and active troop is chartered by our United Methodist Men.

Camperships: St. Paul's encourages youth to participate in events sponsored by the United Methodist Church. Partial camperships are available to enable young people to attend district retreats, conference summer camps (all ages), United Nations Seminars, and international youth convocations. In recent years, our youth have attended Christian conferences in Utah, Virginia and Tennessee, performed a week of service in Appalachia, Kentucky and traveled to the Holy Land for pilgrimage and service.

Confirmation Class: Youth in 7th grade and above prepare for full church membership through a thirteen-session survey of the Bible, Christian doctrine, church history, and Christian discipleship, taught by the Minister of Education and Youth. The course includes an overnight Spiritual Life Retreat at the West River Center.

God and Country Program: This spiritual growth program is offered at different grade levels: elementary (God & Family), middle high (God & Church), and senior high (God & Life), The Minister of Education and Youth leads the course in cooperation with Boy Scout Troop #439 and other youth service organizations.

Council on Youth Ministries: Our advocacy group for youth and coordination group for youth programs is the Council on Youth Ministries. We sponsor, support and coordinate fundraisers for special youth programs, including summer trips, and the "St. Paul’s Educational Award," a stipend for graduating college-bound seniors. We also sponsor and encourage support for special activities like "Youth Sunday" on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, and the United Methodist "Youth Service Fund" for community service projects.
