â Wal-Mart Film.  The Justice and Compassion Ministry is hosting a screening of the new film “Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price,” TODAY, 11:30 a.m., in Room 211.  “This film tells the real story of the corrosive effects that Wal-Mart wreaks upon the communities in which it operates and the men and women it employs.” Bring your bag lunch. Coffee and soft drinks will be served.

 

Poinsettias – Poinsettia order deadline is TODAY.  They will be available in the Church Office after each service.  Cost is $10.75 per plant, and you may choose red or white.  Sponsors of the church door wreaths are also appreciated.  Cost is $18 per wreath.  Both poinsettias and wreaths may be given in honor or in memory of loved ones.  Please make checks payable to St. Paul’s UMC.  Poinsettias may be picked up after the Christmas Eve service.

 

ORDER YOUR ALTAR FLOWERS FOR 2006.  January 8 & 29 need sponsors, along with February 26.  The cost is $55 per Sunday.  Please sign up on the 2006 FLOWER CALENDAR, located on the bulletin board in the Church Office and fill out the yellow form, give to the office volunteer.
 

The Friendship Club will go by Eyre Bus to the Crab Shanty for lunch on December 20.  Meet in the church parking lot at 10 a.m.  For reservation ($40) call Walter Miller (301-564-0357).

 

ALTERNATIVE CHRISTMAS GIFTS - Do you want to give really meaningful gifts this year?  Choose from three mission projects:  Christ House in Washington DC, US Hurricane Relief through UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief), or South Asia Earthquake Relief through UMCOR.  Alternative cards are available today and next Sunday in the Narthex before and after the 9 o’clock and 10:15 services.  For your donation you will receive attractive cards to give your family and friends, telling them of your gifts in their honor.  Make it a special Christmas!

 

The Justice & Compassion Team is sponsoring a Star Tree to provide gifts to children who participate in the TEAM after school program in DC.  The tree is in the Octagon.  Also, a purchase of a gift certificate (Safeway or Giant) for their family would be appreciated.  The gifts will need to be brought (wrapped), with the star taken from the tree, to the church by this Wednesday, Dec. 14th.  Questions? – contact Kaye McMullen (301-942-8986) or Kim Longsworth (301-320-3684).

 

Want to spread some holiday joy?  Come and join Pastor Karin at Arden Courts Nursing home on Tuesday, December 20 at 1:30 for a worship service.  You’ll sing Christmas carols and join our friends for cookies and punch.  What an uplifting experience—for you!  We will carpool from the church at 1:15p.m.

 

“A Life Worthy of the Gospel”, a six-session class developed at Wesley Theological Seminary for lay persons of all churches.  How do Christians think and act in a complex and often ambiguous world?  Ethicist Dr. Sondra Wheeler (PHD Yale) lectures, via DVD, using excerpts from scripture and from church history.  Local moderator, Emily Robinson, will lead.  Class starts on Tuesday, January 10th, 7:15-8:45 p.m. in Room 117.  Sign up in the Church Office.
