1. TODAY IS THE LAST DAY IN THE NARTHEX TO MAKE YOUR PHOTO APPOINTMENT FOR THE PICTORIAL DIRECTORY.  Please don’t let this opportunity escape.  We appreciate those of you who have already made this commitment.  Reminder: the photo dates are Oct. 6, 7, 9, and 10.  For participating you will receive a complimentary 8x10 family portrait form Olan Mills and a free directory from the church.  For help call Margie Clark (301) 942-5523.

2. Please note that there will be a Church Conference on Thursday, September 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary.  The purpose will be to hear the report from the Focus Groups and to make a decision about our capital campaign.  If you have not yet attended a Focus Group, please do so!  Your input is valuable and is helping us discern our future.

Worship attendance last Sunday: 263

Sunday School attendance last Sunday: 155

3. Celebrate the last gasp of summer with us on Tuesday, Sept. 19, when Tuesdays Together returns.  We begin at Noon with worship in the Sanctuary, then enjoy a casual lunch ($4) and fellowship in the Octagon.  Although these gatherings are sponsored by the Older Adult Ministry Committee, all ages are welcome!  Sign up in the church office.

4. The Justice & Compassion Ministry Team will be discussing its plans for the Fall season, which includes a Peace with Justice program in October, launching of “Strangers into Friends”, a mentoring and tutoring project, book studies and brown bag lunch forums.  The meeting this Wednesday, September 20, 7:30 p.m. in the parlor, is open to anyone interested.  Please come, share your ideas and suggestions, or email them to jonmele@aol.com, or phone 301-933-5239.

On Saturday, September 30th, the National Spiritual Ensemble will perform in our Sanctuary at 7 p.m. to benefit Katrina Relief in conjunction with St. Paul’s mission trip to New Orleans.  The Ensemble is a group of professional singers devoted to preserving the art and tradition of Negro spirituals, and is led by Vincent Dion Stringer and St. Paul’s organist, Marvin Mills.  There will be a New Orleans themed dinner at 6 p.m. in Heavener Hall.  Cost: Dinner and concert - $20 per person; concert only, $15.  Tickets are available in the Narthex today (or call the church office).  For those attending the concert only, tickets may be purchased at the door, though you are encouraged to get tickets early so funds may go with our volunteers to New Orleans. Please plan now to attend this exciting and entertaining evening. For further information on the Ensemble, go to the following website:

http://www.NationalSpiritualEnsemble.org/home.html.

St. Paul’s Annual West River Family Weekend – You’ll find fun and fellowship at St. Paul’s West River Family Weekend!  Come for both days or just for the day on Saturday.  The West River Center is only about 50 minutes from Kensington, and easy to get to.  Get more information and the form to sign-up in the September Epistle, the church office, or at the table in the Narthex following worship.  Sign-up now -- Marge Higgins (301-946-5196) and Donna Hewitt (301-570-5980) are available to answer your questions and encourage you to come.
