Call to Confession

A merciful God awaits to hear the confession of our sins.

Prayer of Confession

Dear Lord, as we draw closer to the cross of Good Friday, give to us an awareness of our sin.  Remind us that we have not always been the people you have called us to be.  May your fresh and generous Spirit flow over us as we grow in newness in Jesus Christ.  Amen.

Prayer of Silent Confession

Words of Assurance

Hear these words of grace: In Jesus Christ, we have been given a chance that lasts forever.  Our sins are forgiven, thanks be to God.  Amen.

Pastoral Prayer & Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.  Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever.  Amen.

EASTER LILY ORDERSToday is the deadline for ordering Easter Lilies for our altar on Easter.  Orders will be taken after each of the three services.  Each plant costs $8.75 and may be given in memory or honor of someone special.  Please make checks payable to St. Paul’s UMC.  Don’t miss your chance to honor a loved one with an Easter lily!

“18th annual cleanup of the Potomac River Watershed” will be held on Saturday, April 8 from 9-12 at various sites along the C&O Canal.  If you can help clean up the trash, please call Jim Heins to register (301-949-3518).

* The United Methodist Men are having their next supper & general meeting on Wednesday, April 5th at 6:30 p.m. in Heavener Hall.  After a short business meeting at 7:30, several of the leaders and boys of Cub Scout pack #478 will tell us about their current activities.  Men wishing to attend the supper may sign up in the church office.

Biking for the American Lung Association of Maryland (more commonly referred to as the Asthma Ride for Kids.)  Once again, Jim Heins plans to participate in a bike ride to support this important benefit.  Last year he was able to turn in more than $900 on behalf of St. Paul’s UMC and other friends.  If you would like to contribute this year, please leave your check in the office before May 27, made out to the American Lung Assoc. of Maryland, or give Jim a call (301-949-3518) to pick it up.  Jim and all those kids suffering from asthma will be very appreciative.

COMING UP/PLAN NOW! NEW PICTORIAL DIRECTORY (How quickly the last one became obsolete!) – one free 8x10 portrait and directory for each family photographed.  DATES of photo shoots: AUG. 17, 18, 19 (Thurs., Fri., Sat.); OCT. 6, 7, 9, 10 (Fri., Sat., Mon., Tues.)  We strive for 100% participation and won’t be complete without YOU.  Please be available some of those dates.  NOTE: Families with college students, or young ones in fall sports may want the August dates.  Be aware of the photo dates when scheduling camps and vacations.  VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED: Camera buffs to snap candid photos of church activities and of our shut-ins between now and October; Layout persons (with guidance from Olan Mills); Telephone committee; Hostess committee.  To volunteer, call co-chairs Sue Rice (301-946-1758) or Margaret Clark (301-942-5523).  They meet with the Olan Mils rep. on May 16th and would like their lead people in place by then.
